ECCS READS Student Highlights

ECCS READS Student Highlights!

Earlier this year, Esperanza Cyber started its ECCS READS initiative. The goal of ECCS READS (Reading to Encourage Academic Development and Success) is quite simple, we just want our students to read! Numerous studies have shown the positive academic and social benefits of reading on students. This program is built around incentivizing our students to read, the more they read the more they receive! From small prizes to school shoutouts, there is something for everybody. Jorge and Ana are two students who have already read over 30 books this year in our program! Check out below to see more information about their journey.

Jorge Torres – 10th Grade

What was your favorite book?
My favorite book is Pillow Thoughts by Courtney Peppernell.
What type of books do you like to read?
The types of books that I like to read are poetry books.
Why is reading important to you?
Reading is important to me because it enhances my reading skills, allows me to take my mind off things, and it opens up my imagination to so much more possibilities.
Has the program motivated you to read more? Or have you always read a lot?
The program has indeed motivated me to read more than I usually do. In general, I do always read a lot but the program is just another push of motivation that keeps you going.

Ana Acosta-Calderon – 11th Grade
What was your favorite book?

I don’t have a single favorite book but ‘girl, interrupted’ and ‘the queen’s gambit’ are my two favorites.
What type of books do you like to read?
I read almost anything as long as it looks interesting but memoirs are extremely intriguing.
Why is reading important to you?
Reading reminds me of the hard work I put in throughout the years in order to learn English. (even if it’s a little wonky sometimes, I’m still proud)
Has the program motivated you to read more? Or have you always read a lot?
I’ve always loved reading!
